Black Market Interiors is owned and operated by Lucas Spieler, a Delmont-based remodeler and finish carpenter with a lifelong pull toward building. He grew up around real job sites — his father and grandfather were both ironworkers, his dad a foreman on the PPG building — and was building things himself, from backyard treehouses to the family pool deck, long before it was ever a career.
Building wasn't just something he liked. It was something that made sense to him.
Lucas kept building with local contractors while working his way through college, until it became clear that construction was the work he was meant to do. He went on to spend nearly ten years with one of the area's top remodeling companies, refining high-detail interior work alongside interior designers and architects — an environment where the expectations were high and the details mattered, and one that set the standard he holds to this day.
Seven years ago he took the chance to go out on his own. Black Market Interiors has grown since on repeat customers, referrals, and homeowners who value clean work, honest communication, and craftsmanship that holds up. About 25 years ago, my wife and I bought a home in Carnegie that had once been the cedar-and-local-stone house and architect's studio of one of Frank Lloyd Wright's last students. It is a beautiful and unique home, with a dramatic great room, high ceilings, and a catwalk overlooking the space — but like many architecturally interesting homes, it also comes with its share of challenges.
